Parachutes Listening to Parachutes it quite quickly becomes obvious exactly why there was so much anticipation surrounding its release. Chris Martin's gorgeous voice is the perfect vehicle for a selection of songs that display a talent and imagination you'd generally expect to be far beyond the reach of most groups this early in their career. However veering from fragile to forceful and from understated to epic each and every one of these songs is a masterpiece. As well as their Top 40 hit 'Shiver' Parachutes also includes the simply fantastic 'Yellow' which shot straight up the charts to number 4 proving to this reviewer at least that the British public really do have quite good music taste after all. I can't guarantee that this album will change your life nor can I suggest that buying it will be the best decision you've made all year but if you enjoy good music than you can certainly do much much worse than getting yourself a copy of this fantastic and highly enjoyable album. ... Prisoner Box Set - (DVD) The gem in the crown of Lew Grade's ITC seventies television series. Patrick McGoohan stars as an ex-government agent imprisoned in a surreal world. Re-named "Number 6" he is forced to learn to live in the decidedly unusual community from which escape seems impossible. Who is holding him? Why? What "information" do they need? Imaginative original and the very embodiment of Cult TV. There has never been anything to touch The Prisoner either before it's original broadcast in 1967 or since. Conceived in part by McGoohan himself the story of an Orwellian regime being operated in contemporary times is an intriguing one in itself. That it is set in the peculiar village of Portmeirion in Northern Wales in which the concept of scale seems to have passed it's architect by and that it oozes at the seams with ingenious ideas and disturbing imagery. Although only seventeen episodes were made they remain exceptionally varied. Ranging from psychological horror to science fiction to comedy. One episode even resembled a western. The ambiguous nature of the series has piqued the interest of many. Theses have been written on the nuances and subtleties of the series each installment was full of intriguing ideas philosophical references and visual clues despite the fact that McGoohan has later asked anyone who understood what was going on to kindly explain it to him. Arriving for the first time on DVD it's good to see that the series has aged particularly well - the special effects were always subtle (even "Rover" the giant balloon sent to round up escapees) and still work today. The DVD versions are - of course - digitally restored and include extra footage trailers and a documentary as you would expect from a high quality DVD release. As such these have to be the definitive versions of the series. ... Jessops, BQ, Debenham, Daxon, Grattons, Freemans, Oxendales, Ambrose Wilson Online Catalogue StoreArgos Catalogue. WH.
