            "Why do you draw?"

One day my nephew asked me, "Why do you draw?"
If you knew my nephew, you'd know that when he asks this kind of question, you've got to give him a good answer, otherwise he'll argue with you 'til you're blue in the face.

I thought about it for a while and I told him:

"I draw because I have the gift of being able to pick up pencil and paper and create something interesting and expressive.  I like what comes out and other people seem to like it too.  And little by little I've learned more, and I've been able to communicate a ton of things by drawing.  I draw what I see when I travel, I make up stories for comic strips, I do a little poetry when I paint pictures, I draw diagrams to show how to build houses and things, I illustrate the stories of other writers, I say a lot of important things to my friends with drawings . ..in other words, drawing is great.  You can observe the things around you a little more clearly, you can represent your own vision of the world, you can create, you can feel ... plus, it's lots of fun.  What else could you ask for?"

Visit the Gallery to view a sample of professional illustrations of different styles for different purposes.  In the Souvenirs section I add drawings from time to time from the sketchpads I always carry around in my pocket.  If you would like to contact me or offer a commentary on what you see here or about this web page, then go ahead!

There are several Galleries still under construction; very soon they will be completed.
