Centenary of the birth of the canary writer Pedro García Cabrera

The last 12^th May was inaugurated the exhibition in remembrance of the first centenary of Pedro García Cabrera’s birth. The new CajaCanarias art room, located in La Laguna, will accommodate until 20^thJune a texts andphotographs selection of the different stages about his life.

Pedro García Cabrera was born in 1905 in Vallehermoso (La Gomera). He was a great intellectual who combined in his poems the insular thing with the concept of an universal Atlantic region. From 1925 his poems and articles have frequently appeared in newspapers and Tenerife local magazines.He was persecuted, deported and jailed for his ideas. In 1945 the probation is granted to him. He lived since then in Santa Cruz de Tenerife until his death in 1981.

Throughout this year numerous acts will be performed from different artistic disciplines as a tribute to the gomero poet.
