| Almudena Cruz TV music festival, Eurovision
Inspired by the popular Italian San Remo Festival, the idea for the Eurovision Song Contest was born during a meeting in Monaco in 1955 and adopted in Rome shortly after. The event was to be held for the first time the following year in Lugano, Switzerland; it was entitled "The Eurovision Grand Prix", a name thought up by a British journalist.
Eurovision history tells us about Spanish music too and, of course, about Spanish television. Nowadays Eurovision Festival doesn’t receive attention but, few years ago, before the festival, the whole country was speaking about it and singing the song that some new Spanish singer presented at the Eurovision Festival. Don’t you remember “Bailar pegados” from Sergio Dalma? Ask your parents for Massiel and her “La,la,la...”, unmistakable!
Then, three years ago the OT formula got that Spain vibrated again with Rose and her “Europe is living a celebration”. But, after Rose, is very difficult to remember the name of our last years representatives for all of us.
2005 was the year of Son de Sol and “Brujería”. Last Saturday three sisters from Seville obtained the number 21 in festival results with only 28 points. What’s wrong with Spain and the Eurovision Song Contest? One of the most important shows of television has lost his magic in our country.
