Wolf with a lamb skin
The appearances deceive, under the inoffensive apperence of a despised VW-Porsche 914, hides a thorougbred sport car capable to outpmatch the 911 including the exclusives 911 RS, the 911 RSR and even Turbo.
The photo above shows one of the two rare units of Porsche 914/8, powered by an eight cilynder 260 hp engine, fed with four double body Webercarburetors .This car was the gift that received Ferry Porsche to turn the 60 years.
The second unit of the 914/8 was a model even more "special" since it was specially tuned up for the exclusive use and pleasure of Ferdinand Piëch. Its eight cylinder engine was fed by a Bosch mechanical injection system and offered the impressive power of 350 CV.
These modified cars would demonstrate the development possibilities that offered the 914 frame and the central disposition of its engine, nevertheless the increase of the manufacturing costs, the heavy ballast that dragged because of its modest Volkswagen origin and the competition of the 911 made this alternative nonviable.
