WE DON’T LIKE CLICHES, BUT --

-- We have to talk about them. Spain is a clichés land. Since the 1860s, Spain have rightly been characterized by some cliché stuff, like flamenco, bullfighting, tango and "olé!". Well, all these clichés are absolutly correct. They do really represent Spain, the Spanish people and the Spanish ideals.

And that’s why we can say that Galicia is not Spain.

Because Galicia is not flamenco, bullfighting, tango and "olé". Galicia is a Celtic nation. Galicians are not an Iberian people but a Celtic one. We don’t like flamenco. We have our own dances and music. We profoundly dislike bullfighting. We have our own traditions and feasts. Our weather is not sunny and hot, but rainy and misty, which makes a green land, quite different from the almost desertic Spanish countries. We are not represented by such a Spanish yell like "olé!". We even don’t speak Spanish. Many of us even can’t understand Spanish.

If you came to Galicia, please don’t try to speak Spanish with us. Many people will not understand you. Don’t call us "Spanish". We don’t like it. Don’t ask for flamenco nor paella. That’s ridiculous and you will be treated as an ignorant.

We are, and we will be, a political part of Spain. We have been a political part of the Spanish State since the 15th Century, and we have been opressed by centralism and tyranny since then. Things are changing right now and they will possibly change even more in the future. The fresh air of freedom is blowing quite strong lately over Europe. But we are not, we have never been and we will never be a part of Spain in any other sense than the political one.
